Week 1-3 Using nga takepu lens, analyse the theory and model of practice within placement setting
Strength based practice theory is an approach in which the social worker assesses the strengths and self determination that each person has the ability to make choices and manage their own lives. The Practioner will assess available resources of Whanau ,Community and there environments. The strengths theory is a way of viewing the client and whanau as resilient to difficulties. The Practioner will concentrate on the strengths rather than the problem, abnormality or malfunction.
The initial focus in the supporting strengths practice is around the client/whanau desires, what's important to me? what makes life good for me? How can I keep healthy, well and safe? what do people admire about me? what do I want to keep the same? what do I want to change? what do I need support with? what do I want to achieve? how will I do this? who will help me? when will I do this by? I know this has worked when? Strengths based practice gives the client choice and control over how they live, where they live and with whom they choose to live with.
The Practioner will use a Nga Takepu lens to build the relationship with client and whanau, taking on a Kaitiakitanga role leading Whitiwhiti korero, balancing any Taukumekume, the Practioner will offer Koha through discussing all other support options, including mainstream services available. By the Practioner reviewing past allocations and the possibilities of alternative options that have not yet been explored for the client and whanau. Practice should reflect goals of the client for better outcomes, Mauri Ora.
The Practioner will follow process and policy when putting the client/whanau plan in place, this is outlined by the organization, in my case all relevant paper work such as a current needs assessment, diagnosis, ICare plan, outlining amount of hours needed, Benchmark (how much funding is the client entitled too) High Care Package application if over the $170,000, peer review with specialists, Funding team for approval. A practioners job is to ensure all paper work is relevant, current and correct, so client has the best care to reflect client/whanau strengths.
Very good reflections. Strength based approach and nga takepu used are well reflected upon.
